Welcome to CATSA

Currently, the biggest events organised under the auspices of CATSA are the annual catalysis conferences that take place at different venues throughout the country each year. These provide a forum for the sharing of knowledge and expertise in the fields of homo- and heterogeneous catalysis. One of the main objectives of these conferences is to give young scientists and engineers the opportunity to present their work. Each year, eminent researchers from all over the world are invited as plenary speakers, and this has given the CATSA conferences much needed international exposure. In recent years, some of CATSA's conferences were also at the international level, such as the 1995 Natural Gas Conversion V conference held at the Kruger National Park, and the 1998 IPCAT 1 conference at Cape Town. The CATSA 2000 conference (Fischer-Tropsch on the eve of the XXI century) held in honour of Prof Mark Dry also attracted significant international participation. CATSA was also proud to be associated with IZA2004, an international conference on Zeolites held in Cape Town.

It has been said, that in order for the catalysis industry in South Africa to be accessible to the global community, there needs to be an organisation that markets the skills of local researchers and the needs of customers. The Catalysis Society of South Africa remains committed to this endeavour and welcomes contributions and suggestions.
